Carmel School was born out of a need for the Perth Jewish community to educate its youth in the traditions of Orthodox Judaism and Zionism, while at the same time providing them with an excellent standard of secular education. The School caters for students from age three through to high school graduation, and has consistently been one of the highest achieving schools in the State.

The School aims to provide students with a solid, well-balanced Jewish and secular education.  Students are encouraged to work towards achieving their potential.  Over and above this, the School promotes the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of school life.

Carmel School is a registered school and receives State and Commonwealth funding.  The curriculum therefore reflects the national goals of schooling in Australia and meets the requirements of the Curriculum Council's Framework document.  This determines learning outcomes in eight key learning areas, at all levels from kindergarten through to the end of high school.  Comparability with Western Australian high schools in general is achieved through close liaison with, and monitoring by, the Curriculum Council.

Carmel School has won for itself an enviable reputation in the wider community through the consistent academic achievement and success of its graduates in the public examination arena in past years.

The School's teaching in all subjects, at all levels, is in keeping with its own Curriculum Objectives:
  • The Jewish ethos of the School is respected and enhanced.
  • Teaching methods show the relevance of the content and stimulate student interest.
  • The curriculum content and its level of sophistication are appropriate to the abilities and levels of knowledge of the students. Provision is made for students with special needs.
  • Students are encouraged to accept responsibility for their own educational progress.
  • Student progress is monitored carefully. Weakness is systematically identified and remedied.
  • The progression of students towards independence as learners is fostered.
  • Classroom discipline is firm but fair. Students are respectful, not fearful.
  • The dignity of the individual is respected at all times. Student self-esteem is promoted.
