Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) is an independent Uniting Church school for boys and girls. Students enjoy the benefits of both a single sex and co-educational education as they progress through the different sections of the school.

PEGS has a school population of approximately 2200 students and 350 staff across three campuses within 10 to 12 kilometres from the city of Melbourne. The school also has a camp at Lake Eildon.

Aims of the school

PEGS aims to develop in each student an awareness of his or her intellectual, artistic, spiritual and recreational potential and an understanding of his or her cultural history. The school believes in the development of each student’s intellectual curiosity and it is committed to maintaining its unparalleled tradition of academic excellence.

Educational philosophy

The educational philosophy of PEGS works to cultivate a love of learning, respect for the challenges of areas as various as mathematics, languages, music, literature, science, history and art and actively endorses the dual notions of creativity and persistence. Coupled with the provision of outstanding physical facilities, the school offers its students access to lives enhanced through studies which reward and encourage interest in matters of the mind.

The school has an established reputation for the high achievement of its students in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Whilst PEGS is committed to a rigorous academic programme it is also sensitive to individual abilities and circumstances. This programme is supported by a framework of cultural, spiritual and sporting activities.

Extra curricular activities offered include dance, drama, music, debating and a broad range of sports.
