The Australian National Audit Office

An interesting and rewarding place to work

With a client base as diverse as the 290 Commonwealth government departments and agencies, our people experience variety, challenge and real opportunities for personal and professional development. And because we are responsible, through the actions of our people, for both adding value to public sector effectiveness and the independent assurance of public sector administration and accountability, each of us is able to apply our professional and technical leadership and have real impact on real issues.

But most importantly, we respect not only the experience and abilities of our people, but their personal capability in applying these day-to-day, and project-to-project.

Through performance evaluations, financial audits and IT audits, we provide these career-engaging experiences for business analysts, IT professionals and finance and accounting professionals. And, like all professional organisations, we also employ HR, business administration and other professionals in corporate support roles.

Financial Statement Auditing and IT Auditing

We use a risk-based methodology to develop audit programs, based on materiality, client corporate governance arrangements and client control environments. Audit teams are assigned based on the complexity of the job. Our people apply the ability of communicating with influence, which is critical to building the strong relationships needed to guide clients through such challenges as the international harmonisation of reporting standards, and helping clients' financial reporting to enhance decision making. We conduct over 290 financial audits per year.

Business Performance Evaluations

Performance Audit teams are small, generally comprising up to two or three, are versatile, and chosen for their knowledge of the particular client's operating structure and environment. Teams are selected based on the complexity, risks and expectations involved. Performance Auditors apply a wide spectrum of skills including analytical, project management, strategic thinking, and report writing, and gain the satisfaction through the process of analysis and making recommendations that are practical and useful. We conduct approximately 50 performance audits per year.
